Eagles Triumph Over Ravens in a Hard-Fought Showdown
Never a doubt.....
The Philadelphia Eagles soared to a gritty 24-19 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore, proving once again why they are the class of the NFL this season. It wasn’t always pretty, but then again, neither is Justin Tucker missing three—yes, three kicks. Welcome to the twilight zone, Ravens fans.
1st Quarter: Tucker makes a kick, Ravens looking unstoppable
Baltimore struck first with a 34-yard field goal from Tucker, and Eagles fans collectively rolled their eyes with flashbacks from the Bucs game in week 4.. But as fate would have it, Tucker’s golden foot seemed to have left its magic at home.
Not long after, Lamar Jackson threw a touchdown pass to Mark Andrews, extending the lead to 9-0 after (and we love this part) Tucker whiffed the extra point. This was a harbinger of things to come for Baltimore.
2nd Quarter: The quarterly seesaw begins
As the first quarter ended with thorough domination by the Ravens, the second quarter begins with a drive that culminated in a Dallas Goedert - 17-yard touchdown, putting Philly on the board. Later, Hurts turned chaos into points by recovering his own fumble at the goal line and diving in for a score. It wasn’t elegant, but style points don’t win games. At halftime, the Eagles led 14-12, and Tucker’s 50-yard field goal at the end of the half felt like nothing more than window dressing.
3rd Quarter: Tucker’s Meltdown
Oh, Baltimore, this is where it got ugly. Tucker, whose leg is supposedly the stuff of legends, missed not one but two field goals from 47 and 53 yards. Just as I thought Collingsworth and Tirico might back off of the Mahomes-like love affair Tucker, they referred to him as the best to ever do it. Perhaps the Ravens should have opted for punts—or maybe even prayers. The quarter, although thoroughly dominated by the Ravens, was a wash due to the Tucker ineptitude.
4th Quarter: Saquon Seals It (as usual)
Saquon Barkley, in what has become his signature move this season, put the game on ice with a stunning 25-yard touchdown run. The Eagles would tac on a field goal to make it 24-12 with 1:07 remaining. Per usual as of late, the Eagles gave up a garbage time TD to make things appear more respectable for the Ravens.
Final Thoughts: Eagles defense hangs tough against a great offense while Jalen Hurts was just good enough not to lose it for the Eagles
The Eagles' defense put on a show that even the league's best offense couldn't counter. In true Eagles fashion, nearly half of the games performance more closely resembled something from a high school team. The first and third quarters were a clinic on how to go three and out. But even with zero offense to speak of, the Birds defense hung tough while Justine Tucker became the Eagles game MVP.
As for the Ravens, they're now left pondering their standing in the NFC North as Pittsburg stretched its division lead to two games. Most alarmingly, the Ravens are left wondering if Justin tucker will find the proverbial worm come playoff time — or if it's time to send their famed, but recently shaky, kicker to an all-expenses-paid retreat to find his mojo. Because let's face it, even a Hall of Famer can have a bad day, but 10 missed kicks is no fluke.
